The Brooks Fire Department is determining the cause of the fire alarm. At this time, it appears it was due to a device plugged into an electrical outlet that began to emit smoke.

Students will remain at the JBS Centre while we give the school time to fully air out. The cause of the earlier situation has been addressed; we just want to ensure students are not exposed to any lingering smoke or odour.

At this time, please do not go to the JBS Centre to pick up your student. Transportation will run as normal, with all student pick-ups taking place at the Brooks Junior High School at the end of the school day as part of a regular dismissal.

Please note that there will be no extracurricular activities in the Brooks Junior High gymnasium after school today.

Tomorrow will be a regularly scheduled school day.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, as the safety of our students and staff is always a top priority.

BJHS Update
We want to inform you of a situation involving a fire alarm that is currently taking place at Brooks Junior High School.

As a precaution, we have temporarily evacuated the building and followed all emergency procedures. Students and staff have been safely relocated to the JBS Centre while the Brooks Fire Department conducts a full assessment of the school.

We want to reassure you that all students and staff are safe. We are grateful for how calmly and responsibly everyone responded, and we extend our thanks to the Brooks Fire Department for their quick support.

We ask that parents not come to the JBS Centre at this time as we are determining whether students will be returning to the school shortly.

As we receive more information, we will keep you informed.

Last week, our board and administrators had the chance to deliver apples and tokens of appreciation to recognize the incredible work our educators do every single day.

From early mornings to after-school activities, lesson plans to life lessons—your dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. You lead with care, creativity, and a belief in every student’s potential.

Even if the official celebration has passed, our gratitude continues.
💬 Drop a thank-you, share a memory, or let a teacher know how they’ve made a difference.
