Grasslands Weather Update #2 – Rural Buses Cancelled

Due to rapidly changing weather conditions this afternoon, all rural bus routes have been cancelled.

*City of Brooks buses will continue within city limits only
*The Walking School Bus is cancelled for this afternoon
*Students who remain at school are safe and supervised by staff

For rural students who cannot be picked up, Grasslands is activating our Emergency Billet Protocol. Students will only be released to their identified emergency billet contact.

Please contact your emergency billet as soon as possible to confirm arrangements. School staff will remain on site after dismissal to support students and families as needed.

Weather Update – Rural Transportation - We are monitoring weather conditions expected to develop this afternoon, which may impact rural bus routes or the rural portion of in-town routes.

No transportation decisions have been made at this time, but delays or cancellations may be necessary as conditions change.

Winter Break Reminder: Winter Break runs from December 22nd to January 2nd.

There will be no school during this time, and classes will resume on Monday, January 5th, 2026.

We’re excited to kick off our Holiday Card Contest finalist series! 🎨✨ Each day, we’ll be sharing a few of the beautiful designs created by our Grade 4–6 students back in November. Enjoy today’s featured cards!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Council Council meeting on December 4! Trustees provided updates on provincial education and Prairie Sky Collegiate, shared their roles with provincial school board associations, and SAC Chairs highlighted the important work happening in their schools.

The Brooks Fire Department is determining the cause of the fire alarm. At this time, it appears it was due to a device plugged into an electrical outlet that began to emit smoke.

Students will remain at the JBS Centre while we give the school time to fully air out. The cause of the earlier situation has been addressed; we just want to ensure students are not exposed to any lingering smoke or odour.

At this time, please do not go to the JBS Centre to pick up your student. Transportation will run as normal, with all student pick-ups taking place at the Brooks Junior High School at the end of the school day as part of a regular dismissal.

Please note that there will be no extracurricular activities in the Brooks Junior High gymnasium after school today.

Tomorrow will be a regularly scheduled school day.
