Provincial Grant Supports New Multi-Sport Field at BJHS

A new multi-sport field turf complex at Brooks Junior High School is one step closer after Brooks Community Football (BCF) secured $1,489,594 through the Government of Alberta’s Active Communities Initiative grant.

Targeted for completion in fall 2027, the complex will provide a provincial-calibre playing field for football, soccer, field lacrosse and rugby. It will support recreation and athletics for students, youth and residents across the City of Brooks and County of Newell.

Grasslands Public Schools is partnering with BCF by providing the land at the new Brooks Junior High School and securing architectural and civil engineering plans. The City of Brooks and County of Newell have also contributed funding, alongside BCF’s ongoing fundraising efforts.

“We can now confidently say this project is going to move forward, and we will begin to focus our efforts on the last portion of fundraising from local sponsors and businesses who would like to be a part of this incredible recreational addition to our community,” said Jaret Hofer, Brooks Junior High School principal and BCF joint fundraising chair.

Plans also include dressing rooms, a score clock, lighting and a sound system, public washrooms, a concession and grandstands.

Grasslands thanks Brooks Community Football, the Government of Alberta, the City of Brooks and the County of Newell for helping bring this project closer to reality.
