Maria Montesinos nominated for Edwin Parr Teacher Award

Grasslands Public Schools is pleased to announce Maria Montesinos as its nominee for the Edwin Parr Teacher Award, presented annually by the Alberta School Boards Association to recognize outstanding first-year teachers in Alberta. Maria teaches Grade 4 English Language Arts and Literature, Grade 4 Social Studies, Music, Art, and Physical Education at Bassano School.

Maria is a familiar face in Grasslands, having entered Grasslands Public Schools as a student after her family immigrated to Canada from Ecuador. Maria learned English in Grasslands classrooms and Maria brings this perspective to her work with her students each day. An example of this is her meaningful impact at Bassano School. She is known for the care she brings to her students each day, the positive relationships she has built, and the welcoming learning environments she creates. Whether she is in the classroom, the gym, or supporting school activities, Maria brings patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to helping students feel supported and successful.

Maria’s hard work and dedication extend beyond the classroom. She is actively involved in school life through assemblies, school spirit activities, athletics, music, and other extracurricular opportunities. She has also helped students build meaningful connections within the broader community, including through partnerships with the local seniors lodge.

Grasslands is proud of Maria and her accomplishments. She embodies the true spirit of the Edwin Parr award as a young teacher who is invested in her school community, in her students and in the teaching profession
