The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Nicole Short has accepted the role of Assistant Superintendent of Support Services for Grasslands Public Schools, effective August 13, 2025.
Nicole is a familiar and trusted leader within Grasslands, bringing more than 20 years of experience in education. Most recently, she served as Director of Student Services. In addition to her work at the division level, Nicole has also served students and staff as a principal, a Learning Support Teacher, and in the classroom teaching students from kindergarten to grade 12. She holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Lethbridge, has a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University, and has continued to grow her leadership through both divisional and provincial work.
Pat Connor, Chair of the Board of Trustees, commented, “Nicole’s passion for inclusive education, her exemplary understanding of Grasslands, and her respected leadership across the province and in particular, Zone 6, positions our school division with the required level of expertise and commitment to student learning. Her desire to strengthen rural education combined with her understanding of the diversity of our city and rural communities puts her in a strong position to lead at a division level and ensure inclusion remains a key area of focus.”
Superintendent Scott Brandt added, “Nicole has a strong and practical understanding of student supports at both the school and system level, making her an excellent fit for this role. Her experience, leadership, and ability to bring people together have already made a positive impact across the division. Her work is rooted in building strong relationships and ensuring students and staff are supported. I’m confident she will continue to strengthen the services and supports that help our students, families, and staff succeed.”
Nicole shared that she’s looking forward to this new opportunity, noting: “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Grasslands in the role of Assistant Superintendent of Support Services. In my more than twenty year career with the division, I had been fortunate to learn from many exemplary leaders. With a deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and student well-being, I strive to support every student’s academic and social-emotional success. I look forward to collaborating with families, staff, and the community to ensure that every student has the support they need to reach their full potential.”
