Meet Our Board of Trustees

Pat Connor - Board Chair

I started my career in education in 1975. After graduating from the University of Calgary, my wife, Terry , and I moved to Drumheller to begin my teaching career as a high school Social Studies teacher. In 1980, our family moved to Brooks, where I spent 32 years at Brooks Composite High School. While there I was a Teacher, Guidance Counsellor and even a short time as a Vice-Principal. Also, while in Brooks, my youngest child, Stefanie, was born, completing our family. The two older children, Janessa and Nathan were born in Drumheller. All three children were raised and educated in Brooks. Over my career, I served in many capacities with the ATA Local. In 2012 I retired from Grasslands School Division. Subsequently, I took employment at Brooks Campus of Medicine Hat College, working as an Advisor, Tutor and Exam Proctor. I am now honoured to be serving my second term as a Trustee of Grasslands School Division. I hope to serve the community well.

I am beyond excited to have joined this dynamic and diverse Board of Trustees! I raised my kids in the public school system with both of them having gone from kindergarten to graduation in Duchess School. My two children Ben (Calgary) and Haley (Toronto) are now in their 30's and following their own paths. Once the kids started school, I began volunteering, and was first hired as a kindergarten aide and within a month an opening came up in the office for an administrative assistant position which I took and enjoyed for many years until I retired in 2019. I worked with a number of principals and vice principals and had the pleasure of getting to know many teachers, some who've retired and many who are still teaching. I have learned from all of them and feel that my time with this board will be an extension of learning and meeting new people who all have the same bottom line, which is offering our kids the best possible education within Grasslands Public Schools. My hope is that all kids graduate and become productive citizens of our community. I believe that if we all work together, then these goals can be achieved. I believe in a healthy balance between family, work and friends. My partner Terry and I are proud grandparents of two boys. I enjoy cards, hats, travel, cabin-life and sharing laughs with others. Thank you for this opportunity to serve as a board member.
