Activities of the Board of Trustees 2018-2019

  • Several members of the Board attended the Grand Re-opening of Eastbrook Elementary School following its massive renovation, and at that event, were able to talk with a representative from Alberta Education
  • Trustees attend regularly scheduled Board Meetings to conduct Board business (which included such items as supporting the OurSchool surveys in the fall and spring)
  • Trustees held two Student Advisory gatherings (fall and spring) to hear feedback from junior and senior high school students about a variety of topics
  • Trustees met with the Council of Councils (i.e., representatives from every Parent Council in every Grasslands school) in November 2018 and participate together in an Indigenous Blanket Ceremony
  • Trustees also attended a variety of school functions and events (i.e., Christmas and holiday activities, the Literacy Fair, Edwin Parr Dinner/Ceremony in Taber, track meets, graduation ceremonies, etc.) in order to connect with students, staff, family members and community members
  • Trustees hosted and co-hosted events to recognize staff who are retiring, have worked for the division for specified amounts of time, and have held administrative positions; dinners are also hosted for student teachers and substitute teachers
  • Board Chair Trembecki, along with Trustees Jacobson, Connor and Reed-Zukowski met in November 2018 with (then) Minister of Education Eggen at the Legislature to discuss issues relevant to Grasslands Public Schools
  • Several trustees attended the Albert School Boards Association (ASBA) and/or Public School Boards Association of Alberta (PSBAA) general meetings and conferences in Edmonton in the fall of 2018 and again in May/June 2019 in Red Deer
    • Both organizations presented opportunities to listen to and, in some cases, ask questions of, MLA’s and Ministers
  • The Board held meetings with the PSBAA executive on two occasions in Brooks
  • Representatives from the Grasslands Board attended the regular regional meetings for PSBAA and ASBA
  • Trustee Chapman attended the Rural Education Symposium in March 2019
  • Trustee Reed-Zukowski attended the EverActive Conference in January 2019
  • Board Chair Trembecki met with the new president of Medicine Hat College in the spring of 2019
  • The Grasslands Board of Trustees attended the annual meeting with the City of Brooks Councillors
  • Several trustees were able to attend the various Parent Council meetings at our schools
  • Representatives from the Board attend assorted regular meetings in our community (i.e., the Parks & Recreation Board, Joint Services, etc.) and within Grasslands Public Schools (i.e., Facilities Committee, Professional Development Committee, etc.)
  • The trustees voted to donate a “retired” bus to the local chapter of the Rotary Club for their Los Amigos Project, and this bus will be driven to Mexico and donated to a community in need
