GRASSLANDS REGIONAL DIVISION NO. 6 ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENTS OF SCHOOLS
Vic Budz, Chair of the Board of Trustees for Grasslands Public Schools, commented “As trustees, we were looking for leaders who demonstrate honesty, integrity, and passion in support of success for all students within our very diverse school community. We wanted people who are team players, who are committed to building strong relationships, and who can effectively support the development, articulation, and execution of a clear shared vision. We believe we have two such persons in Sean Beaton and Rhae-Ann Holoien.” Incoming Superintendent Scott Brandt added “I am excited to have Rhae-Ann and Sean join our leadership team. Their passion for public education and dedication to student learning directly aligns with Grasslands’ vision of learning and our strategic priorities. I look forward to their leadership and contributions to our schools and communities across our jurisdiction.”
Sean Beaton is well known to those in Grasslands. He was Learning and Innovations Coordinator for the division for two years and this year served as Vice Principal of Brooks Composite High School. Previously he was at Calgary Academy for seventeen years where he was a teacher, Social Studies Department Head, Director of International Travel Studies, and Academic Dean.
Sean has a Master of Education degree in Curriculum Teaching and Learning from the University of Calgary, a Certificate in Ecological Education from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Bachelor of Education with a Social Studies major, and an English minor, from the University of Alberta.
Mr. Beaton states that “I am very honoured and grateful to be given this leadership opportunity. I look forward to working with our teachers, administrators, superintendent and board as we continue to promote the success of all our students. Since coming to the division, I had the privilege of working with many of you and am very excited to continue that work.”
Rhae-Ann Holoien comes to Grasslands with an extensive and varied history of educational leadership. She is currently Senior Manager, Curriculum Standards and Policy with the Alberta Ministry of Education. Previously she had central office experience as Director of Education with Good Spirit School Division and Superintendent of Education with South East Cornerstone Public School Division, Prairie Valley School Division, and Horizon School Division in Saskatchewan. Prior to that she was a principal of rural schools in Middle Lake and Leroy and taught in several Saskatchewan communities.
Rhae-Ann has a Master of Education degree from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Instruction, a Bachelor of Education degree, and a Bachelor of Arts degree, from the University of Saskatchewan. She also attended Northern Montana College for a year on a volleyball scholarship.
Ms. Holoien states "I am excited to join the Grasslands team. I look forward to working with students, parents/guardians, staff and The Board of Education as we support the vision of Learning...Achieving...Succeeding.”
